The Problem
Polar ice is melting at an unprecedented rate – Arctic summer ice may be gone in just 10 years.
A 10-year (extendable ) Moratorium on exploitation in the Central Arctic Ocean (CAO) provides an opportunity to protect one of the last unique, pristine, irreplaceable biomes. Arctic dwellers, especially Arctic Indigenous Peoples, have relied on and stewarded this ecosystem for millennia. It is now under threat of commercial exploitation which brings significant risks to this little understood area.
The Solution
Your support helps us accomplish these five strategies:
1. Create a 10-yr Moratorium: To pause deep seabed mining, oil and gas exploitation, seismic testing, nuclear-weapon testing, and more harmful activities to this pristine wilderness.
2. Nurture Youth Leadership: Foster young female climate leadership for the future with our Arctic Angels program. Support their voices and actions at high-level climate events around the world.
3. Deliver Practical Solutions: Global Choices drives practical solutions around climate action to the forefront — to help solve global climate challenges and influence policy alongside global leaders.
4. Leverage Arctic Awareness: Leverage the Arctic Sea Ice Shield melt as the ’compass’ for charting accelerated emission reductions — to keep us at 1.5C and to stop this global climate stabilizing system from collapsing.
5. Highlight Economic Costs: Highlight the economic costs of losing the sea ice by placing the facts on the table of decision-makers with the first Global Economic Report — that presents the impacts of the climate crisis.
